I really hope the Capitol collection isn't the only December release, but I suspect it is. I know those are important to some people, but I just can't with how they mangled the sequencing. I'm hoping for the restored Star Club recordings, or the expanded Rubber Soul. 🤞🏿
As far as I can tell, that is it for 2024. There have been rumors that Peter Jackson would LOVE to take on The Star Club recordings, utilizing the MAL software from 'Get Back' and "Now & Then," which considering how badly it was recorded, would be a revelation. I'm not sure on the veracity of this, since George successfully had the Star Club record canned way back when. The news going round about 'Rubber Soul' and possibly 'Help!' would be for their 60th anniversaries in 2025. I imagine Giles Martin would be in charge of those.
Yeah, but as I recall, George canned the Star Club recordings for recording quality and that could now be fixed -- and it would give us the earliest high quality recordings, which would be more than worth doing... I heard something about how Giles already had the Star Club tapes and was working on them, but that might be wishful thinking. (It wouldn't be Peter Jackson, of course -- he's not a record producer or an audio engineer -- it would be Giles and Sam).
We do get Living in the Material World, though. That's something.
One of the most exciting things about AI is what it can do for low quality audio recordings - I would be very excited to see/hear what someone who knew what they were doing could do with the Star Club tapes. Fingers crossed.
I have heard the original Star Club recordings and to be honest, they weren’t horrible-sounding. They could definitely benefit with the technology available today.
