Seems like they could have had the “Beatles” doing one of the band's many early covers. Surely those songs could be licensed for a lot less than Beatles originals.
In all fairness, there are two trains of thought: one, showrunner Russell T Davis clearly drew up the story from not being able to license Beatles songs and two, the narrative was driven by the villain, which had cascading effects, i.e. music sucked in 1963. But clothing certainly did not!
